We have been to Merida several times in the six years that we have lived in Mexico. One of Cole's annual Tae Kwon Do tournaments is hosted here and we are looking forward Birdie's first qualifying horse show that will take place at the Hipico del Sureste at the end of March. It's a great city and I am enjoying it now more than ever. We are here on a recon mission, looking for investment properties for ourselves and for buyers looking to expand their portfolios, so it's not as much of vacation as I might like. Every once in a while, when I am really starting to be concerned that I am raising my children in a party town, a den of iniquity completely lacking in any cultural integrity, an opportunity like this pops up. A few weeks back, just before Taste of Playa, we were invited to attend a special event at Xcaret, a wine tasting evening organized to kick off the 1st annual Festival of Mexican Wines scheduled for March 9-12 2011. I'm hoping this is a good thing as several people have approached me in the grocery store (people I do not know) and said "Taste of Playa, si?" gesturing toward my ever present TOP baseball cap. The Riviera Maya is abuzz with activity and excitement this week as Cancun welcomes the delegates of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.
