Good News! An Organic Market in Coco Beach!
Today, I had the pleasure of visiting the new organic/farmers' market organized in Coco Beach inside the Les Alizes Condominium complex. Located just of of CTM, the mercado is a lovely option for the many residents and visitors to Playa's ever-growing north end and those of us who will travel far and wide for good, locally made, healthy food. Vicki and Scott Lyall of Les Alizes Condominiums, who were instrumental
in bringing this market to the north end, were also on hand to great
newcomers and direct traffic as people arrived for the first time. There was quite a bit of buzz on the inter-webs about this new option for healthy home made products and over 50 curious and hungry customers showed up as well as representatives from the local press! Vendor coordinator and Baker Anja Schafer got some time in the spotlight and a chance to really get the word out about the new market, its mission and the kinds of products that people can expect to find there.
The Coco Beach Market is just gaining momentum with 6 vendors committed at this time. Anja is hoping to find organic produce growers to join the ranks and offer local, organic fruits, veggies, herbs, leafy greens and even mushrooms on a consistent basis. Today, shoppers found a very nice variety of healthy homemade treats including a variety of gluten free and vegan baked goods and pizza, Argentinean empanadas with chimichurri, organic granola, organic eggs, homemade quiches and savory tarts, a variety of sprouts and potted herbs and other plants among many other things! I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. I promise they will leave you hungry!
