On the Riviera Maya, summer is now upon us and summer vacation is just around the corner. For many families, the school break means travel! Many will take this time to travel to see their families scattered across Mexico. Others will depart for cooler climates in the US, Europe and Canada. For those staying put, the challenge is always "What to do with the children?". There aren’t many things that everyone in San Pedro agrees about, but no one would argue with you when you say ‘It’s hot!’. It has been very warm the past couple of months and it looks like we may be in for a long and very hot summer. While we seek out the shade and drink ice cold drinks to cool us down, we need to remember that our furry friends feel the heat just like we do. The 5th Annual Copa del Rey International Polo Tournament was played this year in an exciting multi-day contest at El Rey Polo Club in Puerto Morelos. Set in the middle of the jungle, this world class feild brought six teams face-to-face in this highly anticipated competition. Ranked as a 4-6 goal event this year, the Copa del Rey welcomed players from the United States, Canada, Argentina, Germany, Switzerland, Cuba, and of course, Mexico. The teams included defending champions from GQ Magazine as well as teams representing Porsche, Palace Resorts, Lemmus, Now Resorts and Spa, and In Riviera Magazine. The Mesoamerican Reef (MAR) is the largest barrier reef in the Atlantic and stretches over 1000 km from the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula down to the Bay Islands of Honduras. This reef is the largest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest barrier reef in the world. The Mesoamerican reef serves two important functions. It provides a habitat for a vast array of marine life that rely on the coral for food and shelter. The teachers and students at Ak Lu'um Waldorf School in Playa del Carmen have been working hard on their bio-dynamic garden beds and are starting to see the fruits of their labors.
