The upstairs terrace dining room at La Route des Vins was packed to the rafters with the organizors, volunteers and sponsors of Equine Therapy of Playa del Carmen. Nearly 100 local residents filled the tables and then some in this popular upscale eatery to lend their support for this amazing therapudic program for children with physical and developmental disabilities. Guests were entertained by the musical stylings of Francisco(Paco) Mogallon, the well respected and much loved trainer at El Club Hipico de Playa del Carmen and Lisa Ohrbach, the organizor for this lovely evening. Below are pictures from this overwhelmingly successful event as well as the information about this amazing program. More sponsors and volunteers are needed to insure the future of this wonderful organization.

Equine Therapy Center Of Playa Del Carmen -- Rehabilitation With Love

The Center For Equine Therapy was formed by a group of caring parents concerned with addressing the need for alternative therapies for children with disabilities. The center addresses the needs of both children and adults with a unique approach to healing, using both equine and water therapies. These therapies have seen remarkable results in the healing of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. The main focus of the center is the help of children in and around the Playa Del Carmen area, helping those both able and unable to afford such therapies. We seek to explore and learn about the many amazing benefits of equine therapy, and bring this wonderful, gentle, and caring form of healing to as many people as possible.

Objectives of the Center

  • Bringing equine therapy to people with limited financial resources.
  • Enabling them to take advantage of our program
  • The use of horses as the instrument of therapeutic rehabilitation
  • The training of therapists (volunteers) so that we are able to help as many people as possible
  • Using equine therapy as a means of integrating sport and social activities together
  • To raise funds to enable us to reach out to all the population

Benefits Of The Therapy

Equine therapy is an integral therapy, which addresses both the physical and psychological needs of people with various disabilities. The instrument of this therapy is the horse, which at first contact provides a very positive stimulus. The movement of the horse when mounted provides a physical stimulant throughout one’s body, sending rhythmic impulses throughout the pelvic area and spinal cord, transmitting positive neurons. The body temperature of the horse, which is higher than in humans, acts as a warming instrument permitting the patient to relax their muscles, helping to produce sensory stimulus which helps to regulate the circulatory system.

Equine Therapy Today

At this time we are trying to acquire the funds necessary to construct an equine center in sync with the needs of our patients. A center will enable us to reach out to even more people in the community, and bring them this caring and immensely effective treatment. On May 31st we were proud to present our newest project, aqua therapy. This therapy is available thanks to the owner of Rancho el Guadalupano, and takes place every Saturday morning at 9:00am. The goal is to provide these therapies to people who may not be able to afford the cost of both the equine and aqua therapies. We are hoping to attract people who are able to sponsor a child. The cost of this sponsorship is two thousand pesos monthly, and will cover the cost of therapy. We are also in need of donations to cover the cost of facilities for equine therapy.

Volunteer Program

Our volunteer program is for those individuals who are interested in the ambience of the stable, riding, and providing a safe and caring experience for the children involved in both equine and aqua therapies. No prior experience is necessary; we will be happy to work and train anyone interested. With your help we can move ahead with this program and help all the people in need of this truly amazing therapy. We are grateful in advance for your interest in helping us achieve our goal in using these innovative and effective therapies to help as many people in need as possible. Already we have had great success and would love to discuss this with anyone interested.

For anyone who would like to volunteer...

There are classes on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Thursday.
You do not have to be skilled. Everyone is welcome.
