Three Legged Bar Crawl to Benefit the Bomberos of the Riviera Maya
La Ranita Bar on Calle 10 was at maximum capacity Friday night as contestants, sponsors and curious onlookers for the 4th Annual Playa del Carmen Three Legged Bar Crawl geared up for an alcohol fueled scramble through the streets in an effort to raise funds for the brave firefighters of the Riviera Maya and win much covetted bragging rights! Locals, tourists and even a three legged dog manuvered along the busy sidewalks and crowed streets of Playa del Carmen partaking in a shot of tequila or a bottle of beer at each of the seven stops along the way.
Babe's Noodles and Bar, Manne’s Biergarten, Dirty Martini, Bad Boys on the Beach, Tequila Barrel, Zenzi, and our host bar, La Ranita all set up "drink stops" for the runners. Each stop was manned by a volunteer who would verify that each runner drank their alotted beer or shot, sign their official race forms and send them off to the next bar. I worked the station at Babes Restaurant, the second to last stop on the circuit. It was great fun to watch each team (what was left of them anyway) stagger in, sweaty and nauseous and ready to finish the race. The winning team completed the course in about 13 minutes! The last team to complete the race, local legends Chris Bolister and Keith Rawlinson, drank way more than their share, stopping to gab with friends along the way and tell people about the event. Each of the registered teams raised at least 600 pesos in donations to support our beloved Bomberos. A special congratulations to Heather (Caribe Sunrise) and Sara (Playa Maya News) who managed in these tight financial times to raise nearly $2000 dollars. Well done ladies!! This year, Rob and I were happy to sponsor two teams and we applaud their determination and drinking prowess!
As I was working a station this year, I only managed to get a few pictures. For more fun photos from the evening and information about the event, check out Tony and Cheri's blog and these threads on In the Roo and Playa.info!

Chief Brian Borjesson and his wife Edie start off the runners.
