Never heard of it, right? Well, we have been coming to this park with the kids for four years and I just discovered it had a proper name this week. Park of the Founding Fathers is the area that I have always refered to as the zocalo of Playa, located at the beach just between Avenida Benito Jaurez and the ferry dock. There is a lovely white stucco chapel, a bandstand and a playground, now well equipped with sturdy equipment for the kids to climb and jump and swing and slide on. This area is the center of old Playa and has always had a certain sentimental attraction for me. Five years ago, when Rob and I were here preparing for the big move, we stopped for a quick bite at a small restaurant overlooking the park. As fortune would have it, we happened upon an amazing local production of "Jesu Cristo Superestrella". That's "Jesus Christ Superstar" to you and me! It was a remarkable stroke of luck that we were there to see this show, cementing in my mind the feeling that Playa was a magical place with opportunity around every corner. I have since learned that quality cultural experiences area bit hard to come by here, but nevertheless, I have continued to visit this park time and time again. It's a nice place to sit and study, read a book or just stare out at the ocean. The beach is always wide and clean. There are plenty of vendors selling cold beverages, fresh fruit and a variety of other snacks. Now, the newly renovated playground is the just the place to bring the kids afterschool to work off some excess energy. Being able to easily move back and forth from the beach to the park means noone is ever bored.

Parque los Fundadores is a great place to take your kids for the afternoon if you just need some time to sit quietly on your own. They will have a blast meeting and playing with local children and maybe give you a few minutes to yourself.
