After two months of renovation and red tape, Dr. Taco has finally opened in the space on 10th Ave. previously occupied by Kung Food. Rob and Stuart and I popped in for lunch yesterday to get our fix of tacos borachos and say congratulations to Carlo Nicastro and his wife Cecilia. Last year Carlo (Dr. Taco) was offered a terrific opportunity to head up the ER in a prominent hospital in Merida. The decision to leave Playa with his wife and children was a difficult one and would certainly mean a complete change of lifestyle for this young family. After several months of soul searching and trying to find the right person to carry on the legacy of "Dr. Taco", Carlo and Cecilia decided to stay in Playa and expand their existing business. But what of Carlo's call to medicine, his original love and career of choice? It turns out, visitors coming to Playa del Carmen can enjoy Dr. Taco's famous fried fare and (if emergency strikes during your holiday) his medical expertise. Carlo has recently taken a position as an Emergency Care doctor in the ER of Hospiten Playa del Carmen!

Since 2003, Dr. Taco has been a Playa institution and a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. It is just this kind of family owned and operated business that gives Playa del Carmen its charm and keeps people coming back year after year. 5 years and over 250 thousand tacos later, Dr. Taco is still going strong!
