4th Annual Food Festival on the Island of Holbox
With
plenty of excitement and enthusiasm, the island of Holbox is once again getting
ready to host their annual Muestra Gastronómica: Comer, Amar y Contemplar ("Culinary
Show: Eat, Love and Contemplate"), under the direction of Denise de Kalafe.
From October 22 through 24, 2015, this heavenly piece of paradise will be
decked out to host the now-iconic culinary festival for its fourth consecutive
year. For the 2015 edition, the guest of honor is the state of Chihuahua,
making it a great opportunity to get to know about northern Mexico through its
flavors.
One
of the biggest parts of this year's celebration will be a giant ceviche, which
is planned to become a Guinness World Record for its number of portions
(2,500!). This activity will include the participation of all of the fishermen
on the island through the Chendorito Fishing Tournament.
And
to accompany all of the festivities, there's nothing better than the rhythm and
flavor of musical artists like La Sonora Santanera, La Sonora Matancera,
Margarita la Diosa de la Cumbia, and the romantic Dulce, among many others.
The
name "Eat, Love and Contemplate" perfectly defines this culinary event as a way
to indulge all of the senses in a way that only the charm of Holbox can offer.
Take advantage of this wonderful event to savor traditional local dishes like
the island's famous lobster pizza, along with an extensive list of local
restaurants and visiting restaurants like La Destileria (Mexico City), El Fogon
de Jobel (San Cristobal, Chiapas) and Julia Mia (Cancun).
The
island of Holbox is located just off the northern coast of the state of
Quintana Roo. To get there, drive 3 to 4 hours to the town of Chiquila, then
take the ferry to the island. It's a great little getaway, so make sure to stay
several days to fully enjoy Holbox.
