The exotic jungle of the Mayan Riviera will
pulse with the galloping of hooves, when the 7th Annual Copa del Rey International Polo Tournament takes place April 25 -
28, 2013 at El Rey Polo Country Club in
Puerto Morelos, just 20 minutes south of Cancun.

Set amidst the lush jungle of the Mexican
Caribbean, the regulation polo field will bring six teams face-to-face at a
multi-day competition. Ranked as a 4-6 goal event, the tournament will showcase
players from around the world and of course, Mexico where the sport has been
played since 1880. This highly anticipated Tournament has quickly become one of
the top annual social and sporting events of the Cancun-Riviera Maya region.

Since 2007, when the world-famous polo legend
Carlos Gracida (Queen Elizabeth's favorite) played in the inaugural Copa del
Rey (El Rey Cup), the Tournament has brought the thrill of polo and an alluring
equestrian lifestyle to a region already acclaimed for its beaches, water
sports, resorts, and archeology.

The tournament will kick off on Thursday
April 25 with a cocktail reception on Friday evening at Plaza Kulkucan in
Cancun where the teams and players will be presented to invited guests and
members of the local and international media. While match play will begin on
Friday morning, the tournament and its participants will receive the blessing
of a Mayan shaman and the Governor of Quintana Roo, Roberto Borge, will officially open the
event on Saturday afternoon. The six teams will meet, head to head throughout
the weekend culminating in the championship match on Sunday. A variety of
events have been planned around this year's tournament including an art
exhibition, live musical entertainment and, of course, the hotly contested
Ladies Hat Competition!

Corporate sponsors for this year's event
include Sunset World, Fiesta Americana, Lemmus, Scappino, INRiviera, E Entertainment,
Mazda, Cuatro Tacos and Volaris among others. The Copa del Rey tournament
was inaugurated in 2007 and since then has grown into one of the most
anticipated social and sporting events in the country.

Vermicompost is the humus rich natural waste created by the worms. Worms ingest many kinds of organic waste, pass it through their bodies, converting it into vermicompost. Vermiculture is a simple process that can easily be managed by the average person in their own home! A vermiculture system is a great alternative for those who may not have enough outdoor space for a traditional composting bin. Much of our household garbage can also be converted into vermicompost in the same manner thus reducing our household waste going to dumps and landfills. Worms not only convert garbage into valuable manure. They also keep the environment healthy!

On Sunday June 17th at 11am, Casa Caribe in Puerto Morelos will present a FREE workshop in vermiculture lead by Gerardo Villaneuva who has developed a very simple vermiculture system for use in your home. You contribute organic matter in to feed the worms and out comes vermicompost, the world's best fertilizer, clean and easy to use. Gerardo will show us how to build and use the boxes and illustrate the many ways to make use of these industrious worms and the garden fertilizer they create. He will also show us what to do with "worm tea"!

Gerardo is currently installing worm systems in Xcaret and supplying local hotels with live sprout boxes. We will be able to sample them (the sprouts that is, not the worms) at Casa Caribe's popular Sunday Brunch. The seminar will be conducted in English and Spanish. Casa Caribe Bed & Breakfast is located at 768 Avenida Rojo Gomez in Puerto Morelos. small bookstore in a rustic pueblo in Quintana Roo, Mexico, was apparently the
right place for author and journalist Jeanine Kitchel to nurture her craving to
learn more about the Maya culture.

Her new book, Maya 2012 Revealed, Demystifying
the Prophecy, brings a realistic look at the furor caused by December
21, 2012, with emphasis on who are the Maya, the code, their calendar system,
Maya astronomy and the night sky, 2012ology, the collapse of their culture, and
the prophecy as seen by Maya elders.

Kitchel
moved to Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, in 1997 after traveling there frequently
in the 1980s. Her former
bookstore, one of seven in the state of Quintana Roo and the only English
language bookshop at the time, carried numerous titles about the Maya culture,
the pyramid sites, breaking the Maya code, the Maya calendar, the explorers who
dug the sites, the scholars who studied them, and the myths of the Chilam
Balam and the Popul Vuh.

Becoming
more mesmerized by the Maya with each passing year, she began writing about
them on urgings from publishers Ron Mader, planeta.com, and David Simmonds, of
The Mexico Files (now website MexicoPremiere.com). Her writing range expanded to The Miami Herald and three Mexico
City newspapers.

"It
was something I loved to read about," she said. "I was fascinated by the Maya culture and the fact that, at
the time, no one could break the code.
It was this incredible mystery and a very exciting time in the Yucatan
and I was at the source. As each
new Maya title was published-about the civilization, the code, the pyramids-I
ordered it. I read everything I
could get my hands on. I was
seriously addicted."

Flash
forward to 2012 and the end date debate.
Who better to author a book describing in detail the end time prophecy
and the nuances of the Maya culture than Kitchel?

The
book will be available in May. On
each book sold, a portion of the profits will go to edúcaTE, an educational
non-profit organization in Yucatan, that helps send Maya children to school
whose parents cannot afford it. To
get a copy of Maya 2012 Revealed, Demystifying the Prophecy,

Our own Catriona Brown, owner/proprietor of The Little Mexican Cooking School in Puerto Morelos, was notified that she is one of just three
finalists in the Entrepreneur or Business Person of the Year category.

The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) is a
worldwide forum for the development and exchange of information,
knowledge, and inspiration within the professional food and beverage
community. With nearly 3,000 members from more than 32 countries, this
organization of creative and talented professionals is engaged in and
committed to excellence in the food industry. The winner will be announced in a ceremony capping its 34th annual
IACP Conference on Monday, April 2, 2012 at the New York Times Center in
Manhattan.

"This is a huge compliment from my industry peers and I am stunned and delighted." said Brown, "We have all worked hard to create a wonderful experience in the understanding of Mexican food and culture and are proud to have sent nearly 2000 students home with knowledge of real Mexican food and a deeper understanding of this country." She is also cognizant of the impact overseas. "Our students go home and have parties and dinners and spread their knowledge of Mexican food and culture that they have gained from the school - thereby creating ripples that go far and wide. I intend to keep expanding the school further promote the wonderful cuisine of this fascinating country".

Chef Pablo Espinosa, Head Chef at the school, remarked "It is fun to change people's perspectives of what they believe Mexican food is."

For more information about The Little Mexican Cooking School and its offerings contact:

Catriona Brown
52 998 251 8060
52 998 159 8890
US 512 410 8146
cat@puertomorelosliving.com
http://www.thelittlemexicancookingschool.com

Taste the Wines of Chile in Puerto Morelos

Tonight in Puerto Morelos, Casa Caribe and Tulipanes will present their last wine tasting event for the season featuring a selection of Chilean wines. The Vines will once again be providing us the opportunity of tasting a selection of wines from Quintay of the Maipo Valley Chile where the renowned Casablanca and Leyda sub-growing regions are situated. Guests will be tasting a nice selection of their wines including their Carmenere - Chile’s own signature grape.

This red varietal disappeared from European vineyards in the mid-19th century and reappeared among Chile’s Merlot vines a hundred years later. Today over 8800 hectares of Carmenere are planted in vineyards all across Chile. The deepest, darkest, purplest of all red grapes. Enjoy it with red meats and corn-based dishes, such as Chile’s favorite pastel de choclo (corn and meat pie), or take advantage of its natural fruity-spiciness and serve it up with Indian curry or a Mexican mole.

Chef Pablo Espinosa from The Little Mexican Cooking School will be serving appetizers: brown mushrooms with stewed tomatoes, olives and cloves and a cilantro chimmichurri; tuna tartare with avocado salad and chipotle dressing and sea scallops with corn cream sauce and green bell peppers.

Please call for reservations at 998 251-8060 or cat@puertomorelosliving.com.

The Little Mexican Cooking School Grows at New Location

The Little Mexican Cooking School in Puerto Morelos, voted TripAdvisor best attraction in the Yucatan Peninsula, has relocated to a larger, more interactive space this month for the first time since its opening in 2009.

Instructing Chef Pablo Espinosa taught the first class in the new location October 18, introducing a new format that offers a fully hands-on experience.
