Last week, Playa del Carmen's Music and Performing Arts School, Explayarte presented its full scale production of the award winning musical, Les Miserables. The show ran for three nights to packed and overwhelmingly enthusiastic audiences in Xcaret's Foro Abierto. With less than one week remaining before the third annual BuyPlaya 5K Spring Race, organizers, parents and local business owners are kicking into high gear for this exciting fundraising event for Ak Lu'um International School. The second annual Puerto Aventuras Charitable Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The money raised will benefit the High School in the Poblado. This school building is about 90% complete, and is in its first year of operation with 40 children attending. The teachers expect next year’s enrollment to be about double. Last year’s golf tournament generated $8500 usd and allowed the addition of doors and windows to the building. This year, the money raised will again be dedicated to continued improvements in the facility. Read More...
For the past few years, a caring group of Playa del Carmen residents and frequent flyers banded together to help spread a bit of Christmas joy to the less fortunate children of our region. In December 2011 this program, now known as "Christmas Dreams Playa" was able to provide gifts for over 200 children who might otherwise receive no present at all for the holidays. In total over $86,000 mn worth of presents, school supplies and food essentials were distributed by "Christmas Dreams Playa" during the 2011 holiday season, an amazing accomplishment. Read More...
