Swim with the Sailfish in Mexico!
During the winter, Sailfish migrate to the waters surrounding the Yucatan, near Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Holbox. Here they hunt, often in groups of as many as 20, and feed on the abundance of sardines, herding them into bait-balls and feeding like kings. Sailfish are highly prized game fish and are known for their spectacular jumps, often referred to as the "athletes of the sea" . They can appear in a
startling array of colors, from subdued browns and grays to vibrant
purples and even silver. Their body colors are often highlighted by
stripes of iridescent blue and silver dots.
The Sailfish can almost instantly turn its body light blue with yellowish stripes
when excited, confusing its prey and making capture easier, at the same time
signalling its intentions to fellow Sailfish.
Every year during this magnificent migration, we have the "once in a lifetime type opportunity" to swim and snorkel and experience one of the greatest spectacles of the natural world.
