Oct. 20 - 23, 2011 - Underwater Photography Contest on Isla Mujeres
October 20 - 23, 2011, world famous hotel, Villa Rolandi Thalasso Spa on Isla Mujeres, will host the Ramon Bravo Prieto Underwater Photography Contest. Cash prizes will be awarded in this much anticipated event.
Ramon Bravo Prieto was born in 1925 in Coahuila, Mexico. He was a journalist, communications expert, researcher, environmentalist, cameraman and writer. He was a world-renowned athlete, participating in the XIV Olympic Games in London in 1948 and the XV Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952. He is perhaps best known for his work for the preservation of marine life and for his outstanding research and discoveries about the behavior and habits of sharks.
In 1960, he focused his efforts and attention on scuba diving and underwater photography. His camera work made him famous in the United States and Europe and highly sought after by notable film journalists. He was the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, both in and out of the water, including the prestigious National Journalism Award in 1979. Ramon Bravo Prieto died in 1998. His ashes now lay in an underwater cave of the coast of Isla Mujeres with the "sleeping" sharks he made so famous.
